meet jenny.
it all started with a random college course. we had to take the class to fulfill some credit category that was not even applicable to our major. i think it had something to do with gender role studies. i can’t remember a thing i learned in that class but i do know i sat next to jenny. thank goodness.
as a freshman, i decided to rush a sorority to try to make such a huge university just a LITTLE bit smaller. i had no idea what i was getting into and i was super skeptical. coming off a recent jaw surgery {i know. eek.} it was not nearly as glamorous as seen on tv. throughout the entire process, i prayed and prayed. literally, on my knees prayed. i also cried. it was overwhelming. i prayed that i would end up in a house with girls who were like me. friends. LITTLE did i know the way God was working behind the scenes.
i think it was either to or from this required course that jenny and i had our first conversation. we learned we were from the same town and went to nearby high schools. we had the same major {fine arts} and we had both chosen kappa alpha theta at the end of the rush process. i didn’t know it yet but jenny was the answer to my friend prayers.
our adventures in college courses continued. with the same major, we signed up for classes together as often as possible. the most memorable…our nude figure classes. yep. you read that right. nude figure drawing. i think we took a nude portrait painting course as well. again with the required classes. these classes provided countless hours of hysterical laughter due to the game of would you rather we often played to pass the time. would you rather have to walk around with honkers on the bottom of your shoes for the rest of your life OR a permanent megaphone for a mouth? {feel free to answer in the comments.}
laughter has been a recurring theme in our friendship. anyone who knows jenny knows that she is one of the funniest people. ever. our college days were filled with shared classes, polar pops, late nights in senior suite, half price whatever drink nights, live music, walks, road trips, and talking about all our hopes and plans and dreams for the future.
our days now are filled with jobs, husbands, kids, school, daycare, carpools, crafts, the occasional girl’s night out together, and all those things we once hoped and dreamed of back in college.
sixteen years later, jenny is still one of the very first people i call with news. good or bad, jenny always knows what to say. she is the best at putting things in perspective. she is an amazing listener, super mama of three boys, one of the funniest people i know, always up for anything, super encouraging, thoughtful, and just a complete pleasure to be around…and she’s sharing her LITTLE things today for
ntlt friday friends
welcome jenny! thank you for noticing and sharing.
here is jenny’s list for 10.28.16
1. how my tolerance for what a “loud house” sounds like goes up by the month. what’s normal for me now would have had me running out the door with my hands over my ears back in march.
2. pointing out the different colors of the fall trees to my kids and them turning it into a game to find the most beautiful trees on our walks or drives.
3. waking up on my own time. this doesn’t mean sleeping in {although that would be nice}, but rather me starting my day instead of my roommates starting it for me.
4. long walks with a friend. exercise + therapy all wrapped up into one.
5. setting a goal and conquering it.
6. starting days with “i love you’s.”
7. when you get up to the sample table at costco and the tray is full you you don’t have to wait.
8. mindfulness.
9. inspirational quotes written in super cute handwriting and hung on the wall.
10. fall clothing! colorful scarves, lots of layers, and tall boots!
