just breathe quote

this past summer, i wasn’t feeling well so i laid down on the couch. i turned on a movie for the kids and we all sprawled out, watching and half sleeping. my husband came out of his office and stopped in his tracks. “are you alright?” he asked. “i have never seen you just lay down on the couch before.”

we’ve been married for 10 years and together for 17 and apparently in that time i have only stopped to lay down once.

maybe you can relate? perhaps you thrive on busy, chaos even. it’s tough to quiet the swirling thoughts and to-do’s that occupy the space in your head. your life is one big multi-task.

or you might be thinking who is this girl who never stops to sit down? she’s crazy! maybe you are good at taking breaks. sitting {or even laying} down to just be for a minute. giving yourself some downtime. relaxing. my husband is good at this. he works really hard. really really hard. and a lot. but he allows himself more breathers.

have you heard the song breathe by jonny diaz? it’s not new but it’s always exactly what i need. it came on the radio a few weeks ago, in one of those rare moments where i insisted on adult music in the car. as usual, it felt like the song was speaking to my life.

breathe. just breathe. come and rest at my feet.

i might be more used to the go go go, more comfortable with it, and not sure what to do without it, really. but i need these reminders, from God and from my husband, to take a few more pauses and rest in Him.

here are the lyrics and a link to the song on youtube ::

breathe {jonny diaz}

Alarm clock screaming bare feet hit the floor
It’s off to the races everybody out the door
I’m feeling like I’m falling behind, it’s a crazy life
Ninety miles an hour going fast as I can
Trying to push a little harder trying to get the upper hand
So much to do in so little time, it’s a crazy life
It’s ready, set, go it’s another wild day
When the stress is on the rise in my heart I feel you say just
Breathe, just breathe
Come and rest at my feet
And be, just be
Chaos calls but all you really need
Is to just breathe
Third cup of joe just to get me through the day
Want to make the most of time but I feel it slip away
I wonder if there’s something more to this crazy life
I’m busy, busy, busy, and it’s no surprise to see
That I only have time for me, me, me
There’s gotta be something more to this crazy life
I’m hanging on tight to another wild day
When it starts to fall apart in my heart I hear you say just
Breathe, just breathe
Come and rest at my feet
And be, just be
Chaos calls but all you really need
Is to take it in, fill your lungs
The peace of God that overcomes
Just breathe (just breathe)
let your weary spirit rest
Lay down what’s good and find what’s best
Just breathe (just breathe)
Just breathe, just breathe
Come and rest at my feet
And be, just be
Chaos calls but all you really need
Is to just breathe
Just breathe
